Rebecca & Nick’s Yale Club wedding

A chuppah of flowers, then the chairs lifted on the dance floor. The Yale Club, Manhattan.

A bride and groom kiss in the middle of Vanderbilt Avenue, Grand Central Terminal behind them and a yellow cab waiting at the light.

The Yale Club of New York sits on Vanderbilt Avenue, a few steps from Grand Central. Rebecca and Nick saw each other first on the roof terrace, high above Midtown. Then they went down to the street for portraits in the middle of Vanderbilt Avenue, timed to the few minutes when the light and the traffic allowed it.

They married in the Grand Ballroom, under a chuppah of white and green flowers. After dinner came the HORA, with the couple up on chairs above the room. From there the Hank Lane band took over, and nobody got to sit down for long.

Behind the moment

The ceremony and the reception happened in the same room. While guests were at cocktail hour, the whole Grand Ballroom was turned from ceremony to dinner in under an hour. When the doors opened again, it looked as if it had always been set that way.
