Tarrytown, the Hudson Valley

Weddings at Lyndhurst

Lyndhurst stands above the Hudson in Tarrytown, a Gothic Revival mansion on grounds that can hold a very long evening. We have planned a wedding here with rain in the forecast: the ceremony moved to the mansion’s porch between walls of white flowers, guests gathered on the lantern-lit porch, and dinner was served in a tent on the lawn beneath a draped white ceiling and chandeliers. No guest knew there had been another plan.

What makes Lyndhurst special

The house. Its stone arcades, porches and doorways give a wedding a setting that feels a century older than the city an hour to the south, and the lawn above the river takes a tent of any scale. The design here can be quiet outside and rich inside the tent.

The porchCeremony, cocktails

With rain in the forecast, our couple married on the mansion’s porch between walls of white flowers. Later, guests gathered there with drinks in lantern light before dinner.

The tent on the lawnDinner and dancing

A white tent with a draped ceiling, chandeliers and hanging greenery, and one long table dressed in green. The design ran in emerald, from the velvet ribbon on the invitations to a card for every guest, and the night closed with a champagne tower poured by the couple.

The house and groundsPortraits

The Gothic doorways, the stone arcade and the rooms inside the house make portraits in any weather, including the clear umbrella on the lawn at night.

What we know that most couples don’t

The tent is the venue

Dinner at Lyndhurst is in a tent, so we build the venue: the tent, the floor, power, lighting, a catering kitchen, restrooms and a covered route from the house. The design begins with the site plan. See estate and tented weddings.

The rain plan, decided early

When the forecast turned, the ceremony moved to the porch on a schedule agreed in advance. The guests saw a wedding on the porch, not a change of plan. Our rain plan guide explains how we work.

An hour up the Hudson

Tarrytown is about an hour north of Manhattan. We plan coaches from the city and nearby hotels, and transport home at the end of the night.

A historic site

Lyndhurst is a museum property with its own rules for the house, the grounds, vendors and end times. We read them with you before the design is drawn.
