The day started at Arlo Williamsburg. She came down the spiral staircase into the lobby, and he was waiting at the piano. He’s a professional pianist, and he played for her as she walked down.

They married outdoors on the Long Island City waterfront, under a white canopy, with the whole of Midtown across the East River, from the United Nations to the Empire State Building. Cocktail hour stayed outside with the same view, champagne going around and a violinist playing as the light went down over the city. Then everyone headed back to Arlo for dinner, where the day had begun.

Behind the moment

This was a public waterfront park, not a private venue. For one day only, part of it was blocked off just for this wedding, so the couple and their guests had the river and the skyline to themselves.
